fissure sealants

The biting surfaces of back molar teeth are not flat, but have pits and fissures, where plaque can build, despite cleaning with a tooth brush and toothpaste.

One method of preventing dental decay from developing in the pits and fissures of teeth, is to seal them off with a plastic coating called a “fissure sealant”.

The whole procedure is quick and painless. Keeping the area dry and away from your saliva during the application is very important, as if the tooth gets wet, the sealant might not stick properly.
